Successful North West Limousin YMA competition at Ballina Show

The North West Limousin club held a very successful YMA competition in Ballina Show on Sunday July 11th.

The Young Members Association (YMA) is open to everybody aged between 12 and 25. It tests and improves their knowledge of cattle and showmanship.

The competitors had to judge cattle and explain their reasoning to a master judge and also demonstrate their handling skills in the show ring. Mr John Connell from Oldcastle was the judge.

The top four competitors on the day have qualified to represent the North West Limousin Club in the All-Ireland YMA finals in Bridgetown show on July 25th. The competition was keenly contested with very little between a number of competitors. It was an even spread in the finish with two boys and two girls qualifying. The Higgins sisters finished 1st and third while Kieran Golden and Kevin Graham kept the boys side up finishing 2nd and 4th respectively.

This is the first year of the inter-club competition and we wish the team all the best in the final. The team is April Higgins Ballindine Co Mayo, Kieran Golden, Westport, Emma Higgins Ballindine and Kevin Graham Keadue Co. Roscommon.
